What to Look When Buying A Propane Heater

The type of heater you buy requires careful consideration. There are gas, propane, wood, coal and electricity heaters and they all come in a variety of sizes and shapes. Propane gas heaters have been growing in popularity in recent times mainly due to their environmentally friendly characteristics and the cheap fuel required to run them.

Propane heaters come in a range of different types including portable, stand-alones and permanent. You will need to start the flame with a match and have a source of gas which you can plug the heater into. This gas source can either be a portable bottle or a line into the house.

The most common place a propane heater is used is on a deck or lawn. This makes them ideal for special celebrations that might occur outside during the colder months such as wedding, birthdays and reunions. You can also find propane heaters in indoor settings which can get extremely cold such as garages or basements.

When you are looking for a new propane heater you will quickly find that they come in all different shapes and sizes. There are tall ones, small ones and those that can be mounted permanently to a wall or roof. There are also many high quality brands to choose from.

The advantage of a portable propane heater is that you can easily move it around and then put it away when you no longer need it. Radiant heaters are best for a small area or room, while the larger and taller versions are ideal when you have many people outside on a lawn or patio.

The larger versions will need an electrical socket nearby to power the fan that directs the heat around the required area. The smaller heaters rely on the natural movement of air to circulate the heat. The mounted heaters will need a vent that leads outdoors.

Most mounted heaters will require a building permit before you can put one up. They typically require some work to install and you will need to meet certain regulations and safety requirements which vary depending on where you live. You may need to hire professional to do the work for you.

You can buy propane heaters from your local heating supply or even online. There are a range of websites that stock all sorts of different types and brands. The advantage of buying from a brick and mortar store is that you can get advice on what to buy face to face but online stores tend to be much cheaper.

  1. Gas Patio Heater Guy Says:
I looked at all of the different types of outdoor heater when I was upgrading my old clunker! Whilst the electric heaters are convenient (just throw a switch and they are on) I ended up buying a propane gas patio heater. The reasons included aesthetics - they look better and are a real focal point and energy. The latest gas patio heaters are a lot more energy efficient than the old gas guzzlers, although I suspect that this improvement in efficiency is more to do with the cost of gas and increasing popularity of residential outdoor heaters than concern for the planet!
